Big Orchestra Day

Updated: Mar 25

Helping young musicians gain orchestral experience, meet players from other areas, and gain confidence in playing their instrument in orchestral music. For strings, woodwind, brass and percussion players of approx. grade 3-6.

Many music centres do not have the opportunity for orchestral playing especially at the intermediate level. Derby Music Centre and South East Derbyshire Music Centre have created this opportunity to be a stepping stone to the Derby & Derbyshire Schools’ Orchestra (DDSO).

The repertoire has been carefully chosen to be accessible and enjoyable for all on the day, covering a range of composers and styles of playing.

About the orchestra day

  • Sunday 11th May 2025,10.30am to 4.30pm at County Hall, Matlock

  • Conducted by Veronica Urrego, professional conductor

  • Supported by orchestral tutors to players

  • Just £5 for the day per player.

We're inviting players of strings, wind brass and percussion instruments who are ability level grade 3-6.

If you already play in an orchestra or have been to DDSO, we would still love them to attend as they can support others who have not played in an orchestra before.

If you have a friend who plays an instrument then invite them to come along with you! The more there the better!
